The Heroines of Art History

One of the most disturbing triumph motives i Western art is the jewish heroine Judith that decapitates her enemy Holofernes. The female Baroque painter Artemisia Gentilesche made not only one but several of the most famous portrayals, a fact often associated with her own experiences with rape. What kind of triumph do we really see when Gentileschi’s Judith decapitates the bloodied Holofernes? Ingvild Kjær Tofte, an artist and art historian, discusses this question with Thea Selliaas Thorsen

(The event is in Norwegian)
