Julius Caesar, the Lover

Caesar is perhaps most known for his triumphs, in the classical sense of the term: after having conquered Gaul, he threw his dice, crossed the Rubicon and became sole dictator of Rome. He is less known as a lover, yet was known as ‘every man’s woman and every woman’s men’, he had a child with Cleopatra, and is said to have left progeny in Gaul. Ida Östenberg speaks with Thea Selliaas Thorsen, who is artistic leader of the festival and a specialist on love in Rome.
