Monteverdi: Combattimenti!
Nicolas Achten and his celebrated ensemble Scherzi Musicali has put together a thrilling semi-staged programme around Monteverdi’s emblematic piece “Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda”. Almost a a small opera in itself, “Combattimenti”, building on Tasso’s “Gerusallemme Liberata” and referring to the time of the Crusades, is here mirrored by other pieces from the same period illustrating the contrasts between battle and longing. Scherzi Musicali are known for their imaginative programs, their high quality of performance and their refreshing stage presentations. More than any other productions in the 2020 Barokkfest festival programme, this concert is a magnificent illustration of the general festival theme “War”.
